We have been informed by the Ice Team that the Ice is back in business and that the Ice Plant is working well.
Be aware, that the Ice is slick underfoot for about the next week.
As always, please be careful, when you are on the ice.
The ice plant has been repaired and is back in operation.
Ice maintenance is being carried out today and it is expected that curling can resume Tuesday morning. If the situation changes, a further update will be sent out.
There will be no curling Monday, November 26, 2018 due to ice plant issues.
AC Mechanical has been contacted for assistance.
Further update Monday.
The changes were made to eliminate 3 person teams, particularly on Tuesday nights. Details of the changes for each evening are below.
Monday: Alan Carmichael and Debra Johnson were kind enough to agree to change evenings and switch to Tuesday nights. They will be replaced on Bernie’s team by Barry Sullivan and Angela Pryor. This will give us 13 full teams on Mondays. The new (Rev 2) Monday schedule is effective on November 19.
Tuesday: Prior to Alan and Debra agreeing to change nights, the Tuesday league had two 3 person teams. The “trade” and the addition of a new member brought the league to 6 complete teams. Please check the schedule as some of the teams have been changed. The new (rev 2) Tuesday schedule is effective on November 20.
Thursday: The names of 2 members of Jim Nichols team and 1 person on Martin Chisholm’s team have been added to the rosters. The actual schedule is unchanged.
Hopefully these will be the last changes until these schedules run their course.read more...

A few comments on the schedules:
Monday: based on membership forms and responses received to the confirmation request e-mail, we had 50 people for Monday night. A schedule for the first 2 weeks of the season has been prepared and will then be re-drafted.
Tuesday: there are 19 members who wanted to curl on Tuesday, resulting in 5 teams (one with 3 people) and one team having a bye each week. A 4 week schedule has been prepared.
Thursday: a total of 32 members signed up for Thursdays. A 7 week round robin schedule has been prepared.
For those new to daytime curling, we play every Tuesday and Thursday morning beginning at 9am. There are no predetermined teams; they are chosen randomly each day. We play 4 ends, take a coffee break and play the last 4 ends.
Every month there is a mini-spiel for daytime curlers. It is scheduled on either a Tuesday or Thursday. The 1st game starts at 10 am and the 2nd game is played after lunch. The 1st mini-spiel is scheduled for Thursday November 15 with a chilli lunch. The registration fee will remain at $15.00 per person and covers lunch and prizes. More information and sign up sheets will be available next week.

The Ice is now Ready for Practice and Play!!
Further details about the Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night league will be forthcoming.
Also, Friday night league starts, October 26, at 7:30 pm. Everyone is welcome.
Your ice committee has been working hard for the last 9 days and we are ready to start painting the rings, installing lines and hacks. We need your help - paint and brushes, rollers etc are supplied. You need to bring very clean shoes or boots, and if you can bring knee pads or something to kneel on that wont melt the ice as the edges of rings are painted. There will be three sessions that you can join one or more as follows:
1) Thursday night at 6:45 PM - 9 PM
2) Friday morning 8:45 - 11:30 am
3) Friday evening 6:30 to 9 PM.
Your help with this will be greatly appreciated -many hands make light work!

A very big THANK YOU goes out to our ice crew for all their hard work and tireless dedication to keeping us operational.
Below is an update on the recent issue from our amazing Ice Crew.
ICE PLANT UPDATE
As some of you may be aware, on a routine check this Thursday at noon, it was discovered there was a significant decrease in the brine system head tank indicating a leak in the brine system (the fluid that cools the ice). The ice plant was shut down and a leak search was initiated. On Thursday afternoon, a leak was located on one of the nipple connections to the brine supply header (under the walkway at the scoreboard end of the ice). AC Mechanical of Ottawa was called and they arrived at 8:30 am Friday to assist us with a repair. The repair area is very congested, complicating the repair process. After much perseverance, a repair was installed. The brine system was refilled, vented and pressurized and the leak site observed Friday evening and again this morning. The repair is successfully holding. The ice condition has been assessed and it will be ready for curling in time for the Boxing Day Fun Spiel. The assistance from AC Mechanical was excellent and has resulted in keeping us operational! Their support so close to Christmas is greatly appreciated.
Have a very Merry Christmas.
